UAE’s G42 CEO Affirms Commitment to Secure U.S.-Made Chips

The Chief Executive of G42, the leading AI firm in the UAE, confirmed that role played by the UAE as trusted partner for the US in protecting the sensitive technology. Media reports about the Biden administration contemplating another round of restrictions on sales of chips emanating from American companies like Nvidia and AMD to the Middle East region comes at this time.

Peng Xiao said this while attending a conference in Dubai that the UAE can “guarantee the safety and security” of chips utilized within its borders. He was polite and understanding as he acknowledged the convoluted decisions from U.S. policymakers, suggesting that they were right to take such a stance while pointing out that UAE is committed toward transparency and security in technology management.

Xiao said the UAE’s capabilities would put it in a good position to expand cooperation and technology sharing with the US. He did not provide any further information about any actions being taken to make access to would-be chip imports safe. The US has previously raised concerns over G42’s ties with China, which forced the firm to sell its stakes in Chinese companies, including Bytedance, to ease American stakeholder concerns.

It was a significant endorsement of UAE AI initiatives since Microsoft recently signed a $1.5 billion deal with G42. The visit of UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan to Washington, that included Xiao, also marked the strong bilateral ties that deepen both countries. Just a few days after the visit, both countries issued a joint statement reiterating their commitment to further cooperation in artificial intelligence and related technologies.

In addition, UAE’s investments into the United States come to approximately $1 trillion, with sovereign wealth funds being among the prominent participants in the U.S. technology and infrastructure as well as real estate markets. As the UAE gains the status of a leader in AI regulation, other regional players, such as Saudi Arabia, also strive to gain advanced access to the U.S. chip technology, including similar AI capacity advancement.

The landscape of partnership between the UAE and the U.S. is continuously changing in the scope of AI that will continue to become the bedrock for great technological growth as well as mutual rewards.
